Assaf Mousa Alkhraty عساف موسى الخرطي

Assaf Mousa Alkhraty (b. 1994) is a Palestinian sculptor and painter from Al-Maghraqa, in the central Gaza Strip. Trained in business administration and self taught as an artist, he began sculpting in 2015 and became known for welded iron works about unemployment, blocked travel and schooling under blockade. Since the genocide began, his sculpture has been made largely from the remnants of Israeli munitions and bomb damaged metal. His studio and home were destroyed, all of his original works with them, and he is now displaced, living in the encampments. He continues to sculpt, paint and work across other mediums.

Note for Portrait of Dorgham Qreaiqea (2021)

Assaf Mousa Alkhraty made this portrait of the artist Dorgham Qreaiqea in 2021. Qreaiqea was killed with his wife, Aya Shukri al Qudra, and members of his family in an Israeli airstrike on Shuja'iyya on 18 March 2025. The original of this work was destroyed when Alkhraty's studio was bombed. Two Gaza artists, one archive: this is what remains of both the sitter and the sculpture.
