Inside the tent 1

Artist Notes

I drew this painting from our daily life in tents. The girl is sitting in the tent, and her facial features clearly reveal her discomfort from the heat. Next to her lies the book she was reading before the heat became too much for her and she closed it. Her hands are clasped in a silent, desperate plea, and her closed eyes reject the harshness of the life she was forced to live; the loss of her home and the life in a displacement camp. I chose to make the brushstrokes expressive and distinct to convey the weight of her feelings and her tragedy; there is no room for soft surfaces in the face of such cruel loss and deprivation.
