Rebirth

Artist Notes

"Rebirth" is my first artwork since my last evacuation and the loss of my home and all my previous artworks. This was the first time I’d picked up my brushes in nearly a year and a half. I thought I’d be too fragile to return to colors and art again, but it turned out that I returned to painting with even greater strength than before; indeed, I was reborn. My colors have become more confident in the face of the recurring death we face, and my art has become an act of resistance. and in this work—which may seem simple—there is confidence in the brushstrokes, indignation at the ugliness of reality, and a deep desire to give beauty meaning and existence amid all this destruction.
