Artist Notes

Many hopes spring up in one’s heart even while living through this constant death; this hope emerges in a blue guise—feelings that may seem wrong and unfounded. How, indeed, can one embrace hope amid such destruction?! In this work, I present this vase filled with flowers that symbolize hope and optimism for the future—including blue irises, white carnations, and wild daffodils. All these symbols point to the hopes that emerge from the midst of death. The color blue may symbolize melancholy and nothingness, but with the presence of these flowers that proclaim hope, a new blend of emotions takes shape—death and destruction do not mean that a person’s heart ceases to hope and love!
