BACKGROUND PATTERN, REQUIRES IDENTIFICATION The repeating geometric ground of rectangles and triangles may be an embroidery motif rather than an abstract pattern. Palestinian tatreez uses exactly this vocabulary of repeating geometric units, and embroidery recurs across this artist's work, including the published record Heritage. If it is a tatreez motif, the pattern is content rather than decoration and should be identified and named. This should be done by someone with the relevant expertise, not from automated reading. Do not describe it as an abstract or decorative background until it has been examined properly. RECURRING MOTIF Flowers growing directly out of the body, rather than held, also appear in other works in this collection. Whether this is a sustained device should be recorded once the full set has been assessed. MATERIAL ASSESSMENT Unresolved and recorded as unconfirmed. SELECTIVE COLOUR The two red roses are the only colour in an otherwise greyscale image. Deliberate, and must be preserved in reproduction. SIGNATURE Present lower left in cursive. Not transcribed.
