Description

A domestic interior in which two figures sit facing one another across a small table, caught in what reads as either conversation or confrontation. The space is organized into distinct architectural zones: a window at the left opening onto a landscape, a potted plant further left, the seated pair at center, and fragmented geometric wall sections behind. A red object, possibly a basket or vessel, rests on the table between the figures. In the upper right, an abstract red form with spiral eyes hovers above the scene.

The palette is high-contrast and saturated, dominated by deep blues and reds, with cream and off-white in the figures, yellow and ochre across the wall planes, deep green in the foliage, and purple and burgundy in the lower register. Black contours define forms throughout. Brushwork is thick and gestural, particularly in the background fields, and ranges from thin glazes to raised impasto, with visible scumbling and overlapping layers. The distorted proportions, charged color, and fragmented space place the work firmly in an Expressionist idiom with Cubist influence.

No signature, date, or inscription is legible in the archival photograph.

Cataloguing note: Provisional descriptive title assigned during archival restructuring. This work was previously filed as a detail shot of Gaza Fish. It contains no marine motif; series attribution requires review. Medium, dimensions, and date are unverified.

Preservation Notes

Surface shows overlapping layers and scumbling with raised impasto passages; avoid surface pressure when handling. Medium inferred from archival photograph only. Separated from the Gaza Fish gallery during the September 2026 restructuring.
