Description

An interior scene built around a blue circular table laid with food. A white skeletal fish is rendered in profile at the center of the composition, flanked by two forks, alongside a blue bowl of golden olives and a slice of watermelon with visible seeds. A second fish, painted in deep blue tones, hangs above the table. A simplified white fish-skeleton motif is repeated on the red patterned floor below. Two blue rush-seated chairs with woven detail frame the table, and potted plants resembling herbs or wheat stand in golden vessels. A pale blue-gray window or wall section closes the upper background.

The palette is restricted and emphatic: rich cobalt and navy across walls and furniture, deep red and burgundy in the patterned floor, warm golden yellow in the woven seats, pots, and olives, white in the fish and highlights, and dark green in the foliage. The surface is heavily textured, moving from thick impasto to thinner linear contour work, with black outlines defining all primary forms in a manner drawn from folk art and Fauvism. Patterned zones, especially the floor, are built from repeated triangles and diamonds, and the flattened forms distribute attention across several focal points rather than one. Table and chairs establish a strong linear recession.

A signature appears in the lower left corner but is not fully legible at archival resolution.

Cataloguing note: Provisional descriptive title assigned during archival restructuring. This work was previously filed as a detail shot of Gaza Fish and is a strong candidate for the fish series. Medium, dimensions, and date are unverified.

Preservation Notes

Signature present in the lower left corner; photograph at higher resolution to establish attribution and any accompanying date. Heavy impasto passages require support during transport. Medium inferred from archival photograph only. Separated from the Gaza Fish gallery during the September 2026 restructuring.
