Night of Love in The Tent -Ahmed Muhanna 05
1984 - Present
Description
Paint on a panel presented on a bright red mount board. The surface carries a pronounced directional grain, and the marks read as incised or drawn into a textured ground rather than laid flat.
Two figures occupy the center of a vertical composition, both worked in deep teal and blue with rust and orange-brown highlights and black outline. The figure at the left faces forward with the head tilted slightly, in a collared garment with a textured or ruffled neckline. The figure at the right is turned to three-quarter or profile view, with long flowing hair. Facial features and clothing texture are closely worked on both. Across the lower portion a patterned garment carries repeated gold and orange marks.
A pale circular form sits in the upper left of a cream ground, with a darker teal mass filling the left edge. Impasto is present and the surface is dimensional, with hatching and linear marks worked through the background.
A small passage of script appears at the left in dark blue. It is not legible at the available resolution and its language has not been determined; it has not been transcribed.
No signature or date is clearly visible in the archived image.
Record status: the artist has not supplied a title, dimensions, or a statement about this work. Everything described above is observable in the archived image and has not been verified against the physical work. The support reads as a grained panel rather than the paper recorded in the medium field, and this is unresolved. The concept and story portion of this field is left empty pending the artist's own words.
Artist Notes
No artist notes supplied for this work. The source record from which this work was separated (302b1596-4f26-4834-9b1a-7a31152c768c, "Night of Love in the Tent") records verbatim: "Artist doesnt want write notes on this one". That note was entered against the source record and it is NOT established that it was given about this specific work. Recorded 2026-09-17. Anything entered in this field must be Ahmed Muhanna's own words, quoted or summarized from a source he supplied. Do not paraphrase on his behalf.
Preservation Notes
--- RECORD PROVENANCE --- Separated on 2026-09-17 from art record 302b1596-4f26-4834-9b1a-7a31152c768c ("Night of Love in the Tent"), where three image files had been uploaded to a single record. PAPA (Sky, Art Collection Manager and Director of Operations) confirmed on 2026-09-17 that only the file ahmedMuhanna03.jpeg is the work titled "Night of Love in the Tent", and that the other two files are separate works. Source file for this record: ahmedMuhanna05.jpeg. Archived master 1263 x 1600 px, 377 KB JPEG. The companion work separated in the same operation is recorded as "As Yet Untitled -Ahmed Muhanna 04" (source file ahmedMuhanna04.jpeg). --- INHERITED AND UNVERIFIED FIELDS --- The following were carried over from the source record at separation and are NOT independently verified for this work. Do not treat them as confirmed: Year of creation: 2025, inherited. No date is clearly visible on the work. Medium: "acrylic paints on A3 Canson", inherited. NOTE A DIRECT CONFLICT: the archived image reads as a support with a pronounced directional grain, closer to a wood or board panel than to Canson paper, with marks that appear incised into a textured ground. The inherited medium may be wrong for this work, and the distinction matters for conservation. It has not been altered. Confirm with the artist. Location: Gaza, inherited and unverified. Title: "As Yet Untitled -Ahmed Muhanna 05" is a placeholder following the naming convention PAPA uses for this artist's untitled works. It is NOT the artist's title. The artist has not supplied one. Dimensions: Unknown. The source record carries height 17 and width 12 with no unit stated; those figures belong to the source record and were deliberately NOT copied here, as there is no basis for applying them to this work. Do not infer dimensions from image proportions. Materials: Not yet recorded. --- RED MOUNT BOARD --- This is the work in the group that is presented on a bright red mount board. The preservation notes on the source record flag that mount as likely acidic and possibly carrying fugitive dye; that guidance belongs to THIS work, not to "Night of Love in the Tent", whose own image shows no red mount. Acidic mount board in direct contact with the work is a live deterioration risk. Recommend the mount be assessed and, if confirmed acidic, replaced with conservation-grade board by a conservator. Do not attempt this without one. --- CONDITION, FROM PHOTOGRAPH ONLY --- Observations from the archived image, NOT verified against the physical work. Pronounced grain and tool or brush marks across the surface, with impasto and a dimensional surface. No tears apparent. No significant staining apparent. Some wear consistent with age. Whether the physical work survives, and its condition: Not yet recorded. HANDLING: avoid stacking and avoid surface pressure across the impasto. Do not attempt cleaning; soft acrylic abrades easily and dry-cleaning methods used on drawings will damage it. Acrylic is thermoplastic and will go tacky in heat and can take a gloss imprint from glazing held in contact. --- UNTRANSCRIBED SCRIPT --- A small passage of script appears at the left of the work in dark blue. It is not legible at the available image resolution and its language has NOT been determined. An automated read suggested East Asian characters, which is not credible for this artist and is recorded here only so that it is not repeated as fact. The passage has not been transcribed or translated and should be read by a person, not inferred. It may carry text by the artist. --- RIGHTS AND REPRODUCTION --- STANDING POSITION, stated by PAPA's Director of Operations and Art Collection Manager (Sky) on 2026-09-17, applying to every artist represented on papaart.org and to this record without separate confirmation: CONTRACTS: PAPA holds an executed contract with every artist represented. PAPA'S GRANT: exclusive rights to reproduce the work as prints and to distribute those prints. COPYRIGHT: retained by the artist, Ahmed Muhanna. PAPA is a licensee, not a rights owner. ARTIST REVENUE: the artist receives the NET profits from print sales. Net, not gross. CREDIT LINE: copyright attributed to the artist, with PAPA credited separately as distributor. CUSTODY: executed contracts are held off-system by the Art Collection Manager and are not uploaded to this dataset. PUBLIC COPY CAUTION: because the artist's share is calculated on NET, public-facing material must not state or imply that 100 percent of the sale price goes to the artist. The accurate phrasing is 100 percent of net profits. --- SOURCE FILE FIDELITY --- Archived master is 1263 x 1600 px, 377 KB. This supports print at approximately 10.7 x 13.5 cm at 300 DPI, and is not sufficient for reproduction at substantial scale. Check pixel dimensions against intended print size before this work goes to print. If a higher-fidelity capture becomes possible, replace the master and update this note. --- OPEN ITEMS --- 1. Artist's own title for this work. 2. Confirm the support and medium. The inherited value conflicts with the image, and the difference affects conservation. 3. Dimensions, with units stated. 4. Have the script passage read by a person and transcribed. 5. Assess the red mount board for acidity and fugitive dye. 6. Whether the source record's artist note was given about this work or only about "Night of Love in the Tent".
