Preservation Notes

The notes open with a caveat that this is materials-based guidance, not a condition report, then cover support and medium, five specific risks, environment and display, handling and storage, and what the Gaza context means in practice. The risks that matter most here are the thermoplasticity of acrylic (it goes tacky in heat and will take a gloss imprint from glazing), cracking if the sheet is ever rolled, cleavage in the thick impasto passages, and the red mount board, which is likely acidic and may have fugitive dye. I also put a firm "do not clean" in there, since soft acrylic is easily abraded and dry-cleaning methods that work on drawings will damage it. Climate control and conservator access can't be assumed, so the notes push documentation, including raking-light photography repeated at intervals, as the preservation measure that is realistically available. --- SEPARATION OF CONFLATED FILES, 2026-09-17 --- This record previously held three image files in the gallery field, covering three different artworks. PAPA (Sky, Art Collection Manager and Director of Operations) confirmed on 2026-09-17 that ONLY the file ahmedMuhanna03.jpeg is the work titled "Night of Love in the Tent". That file remains as this record's main image and was not altered. WARNING, EXISTING PRESERVATION GUIDANCE ON THIS RECORD IS PARTLY MISDIRECTED: the guidance above regarding "the red mount board", its likely acidity and possible fugitive dye, does NOT apply to this work. "Night of Love in the Tent" shows no red mount in its image; its ground is a bright magenta or hot pink paper or board with no separate mount visible. The red mount board belongs to the work now recorded as "As Yet Untitled -Ahmed Muhanna 05", and that guidance has been carried onto that record. The remaining guidance on this record concerning acrylic thermoplasticity, cracking if rolled, cleavage in impasto, and the instruction not to clean does apply here. The existing text has been left untouched; treat this warning as the correction. OBSERVED ON THIS WORK, from the archived image only and not verified against the physical work: bright magenta or hot pink ground; a single seated or reclining figure worked in periwinkle blue and mauve with bold black outline and white highlights; flowing drapery at the sides; moderate impasto in the blue and mauve passages. A handwritten signature in black ink appears at lower right; it is not fully legible at the available resolution and no date is visible. DIMENSIONS ON THIS RECORD: height 17 and width 12 are recorded with NO UNIT stated. The unit is unrecorded and must not be guessed. These figures were deliberately not copied to the two separated records, as there was no basis for applying them to those works.
