Preservation Notes

PROVISIONAL. All observations below are from inspection of the digital file. This is a born-digital work; conventional condition assessment does not apply, and the preservation concerns are file-level rather than material. SUBJECT, HANDLE WITH CARE The title of this work is a personal name. No description of the subject has been entered in this note, and no research has been carried out to identify the name or to add context. Any public-facing text, interpretive copy, tags, or exhibition material attached to this record requires a deliberate decision by the Director of Operations before it is written, not a cataloguer filling an empty field. This record is currently set to public. TECHNIQUE Digital raster painting consistent with layered work in a bitmap painting application using pressure-sensitive input. Soft round-brush blending, variable-opacity wash passes, and discrete tapering stroke terminations are visible. Linework is hand-drawn rather than vector-derived; contours show variable width and slight tremor with no uniform bezier edges or flat-fill colour boundaries. A grain or texture overlay is applied across the background field, likely a scanned or procedural texture layer in a multiply or overlay blend mode. Faint repeating foliate-shaped tonal marks in the background suggest a stamped or large-brush textural pass. The circular central element carries a mottled speckled texture layer with concentric thin ring strokes. Several symmetrical motifs appear to be duplicated and rotated instances of the same painted asset, showing identical internal texture at differing orientations. Drip-like vertical passages in the lower third appear painted rather than filtered. No photographic or photo-collage elements detected. Composition is figurative, centrally and bilaterally symmetrical. Dominant palette: desaturated charcoal grey ground, mid-value warm gold and ochre, saturated red and crimson accents, muted brown and teal-green secondary notes, deep violet-black in the lower region. FILE QUALITY, ACTION RECOMMENDED Mild JPEG-type artifacting is present, most detectable as low-amplitude blocking and mosquito noise in the flat dark background adjacent to high-contrast edges. Slight chroma smearing around saturated red and gold passages. Some banding and posterisation in the gradient transitions of the dark background. No visible resampling softness, highlight clipping, or crop damage. As with the other digital works in this collection, the archived file is a compressed export rather than a master. The layered source file and a lossless export are the preservation copies. Requesting the master from the artist should be treated as a preservation action. DIMENSIONS Recorded as 20 x 16 with the unit unset, a ratio of 1.25. The source file is 1815 x 2471 px, a ratio of approximately 1.36. The two do not match precisely. As with Haze - Anxiety, the recorded dimensions may describe an intended print size rather than the file, or may be inherited from another record. The dimensions field already holds values and has not been changed. For a born-digital work the archive should be able to record pixel dimensions and intended output size separately; the schema currently provides one field. SIGNATURE No signature, date, monogram, edition marking, or watermark is visible in any region of the image, including margins and corners. Note that two other works in this collection carry a visible signature. Whether this work was left unsigned is unestablished. LOCATION The location field is empty on this record. SOURCE FILE 1815 x 2471 px, JPEG. Full-bleed digital file with no border, frame, or surrounding support visible.
