When the Brush Carries an Entire Homeland

There are artists who paint what they see, and others who paint what they feel. But Palestinian artist Haitham Mosleh Zaarab paints what he believes must never be forgotten. In his work, the canvas becomes more than a space for colors; it becomes a document preserving memory, carrying the features of a homeland, and telling the story of a people who continue to hold on to life despite everything surrounding them.

Haitham comes from the city of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, a city that has shaped both his human and artistic experience. Since childhood, the brush was not merely a tool for him to paint with, but rather a window through which he viewed the world and a means of telling his story and the story of the land where he grew up.

Through years of siege and war, his artistic presence did not diminish. Instead, his experience became more deeply rooted. Every challenge he faced became a source of motivation, giving him greater determination to continue painting. His works have thus become mirrors reflecting resilience, the details of Palestinian life, and his belief that creativity can remain alive even under the harshest circumstances.

Haitham has participated in a number of art exhibitions, presenting works that do not seek beauty in its traditional sense alone, but also strive to document the Palestinian experience, revive heritage, and preserve identity from fading away. He believes that art does not merely record a moment; it preserves that moment for future generations, allowing it to remain alive in memory regardless of how times may change.
