Description
Inspired by Mahmoud Darwish’s description of Gaza as “the essence of the essence” when speaking about it and the overwhelming emotions it evokes. This formed a panoramic image that mirrors its narrative and the aspirations of its exhausted people.
Preservation Notes
SUPPORT AND MEDIUM (assessed from archival photograph, 2026-09-18) Work on paper. The support reads as a white or cream art paper. Media read as black ink line and wash with graphite shading. The Medium field records "Black ink on paper," which does not account for the apparent pencil passages. Confirm by physical examination before any treatment is chosen. CONDITION AND HANDLING No tears, creases, cockling, or foxing visible at current resolution; the surface reads as clean. Store and transport flat rather than rolled. Graphite passages burnish and smudge under surface contact, so interleave with smooth acid-free tissue and do not dry-clean the image area without testing. RECOMMENDED DISPLAY Window-mount with acid-free, lignin-free board and hinge with Japanese tissue and starch paste. Do not dry-mount or use pressure-sensitive tape. UV-filtering glazing advised. OUTSTANDING VERIFICATION 1. Year created is not recorded. 2. Dimensions are recorded as 29 x 21 cm, a portrait ratio, but the composition is horizontal and every work in this series carries the same figures. Likely a batch-entered default. Measure against the physical work. 3. Arabic inscriptions appear in the upper left margin, the lower right margin, and on a band inside the composition. None are transcribed. Photograph at high resolution and have them transcribed and translated; they may carry title, date, or attribution. 4. No signature or date is visible in the current reproduction. 5. Current location is not recorded. 6. Medium field may be incomplete (see above).
