Description

This original piece was created from limited watercolor pigments that Dr. Khalil Khalidy had possession of, and the blood of an unidentified child whose number was 991. Dr. Khalidy digitized it immediately for fear that it would be destroyed, along with his life, family and home during the 2023-2026 Genocide in Gaza that is still active and ongoing. This series derived from the story of attempting life saving measures in a desperate attempt to save the child’s life and it symbolizes the grief, despair and silent scream of not only this victim but the trauma endured attempting to heal, and make sense of such madness during one of the worst atrocities of our collective generation.

Artist Notes

We the born with the cardinal sin , as deemed by the virtuous, we now understand that our mission in this life was never to cleanse our souls , to uproot ourselves nor to seek a place among the virtuous , the virtuous who parade their virtues , on the most extravagant of stages , as they keep the eyes away from what goes on behind the curtain, in the shadows , there we’ve been lurking , where we’ve been shunned, as we sat there watching both the scene and what’s behind , we saw the unseen , listened to the unheard , as we shouted into an echo .
We now understand that our mission is to shake the stage , drop the curtain and dim the lights , for their lights were never from within , for our light is the true one , glowing in the darkest of nights , for us to show all there is no true light but the one within , let the sealing crumble for its a faux sky , and let us cast our light upon the moon as it lights up the whole world . Now we understand that we are not the sinful but the destined. - Dr. Khalil Khalidy
